♟ But You'd Look So Much Better inside out ♟
☙ Shakaya ignored the man's please as she locked him in a separate room somewhat similar to those that the New Children were kept in. He'd be staying here until he was either deemed safe to be freed, or until he mutated and would need to be destroyed. It could take anyway from a matter of minutes to a matter of days, but as long as he was locked in safely, the matter was taken care of for now.
☙ She briefly considered asking the man how he'd been bitten or what he remembered about the incident, but decided that it wasn't likely to matter much - it wasn't likely that he knew anything more about why the Remnant was there than they did...or at least not as much as the Remnant itself would. She'd go see what the New Child had found out and come check on the man again later that night.
☙ When she reached the restraining room, she unlocked the door and stepped inside. The Remnant was lying against a wall with no restraints, crimson spilling from a horrible wound that ran up to it's elbow. She was surprised at first, having expected to just see the Remnant restrained down like she usually did in similar situations, but apparently this infantry member had taken the initiative to truly take the matter into her own hands. The New Child woman herself was just leaning near the door, as if she'd been waiting for her. Shakaya hoped that meant that she had something to report. "What did you get out of him?" She asked simply, coming to lean against the wall herself, with one eye on the wounded Remnant, as she awaited an answer.

And They Shall Reign. - ✝ - Adia kept looking at the remnant as Shakaya walked in, rather frustratingly. She then heard the general’s question and held up the bitten off tongue at her. “Just this,” she said, “He bit it off when I confronted him about some holes with his story. He said some rogue New Child asked him to get something from the junkyards, and that that man stole whatever it was from him after he had found it. But… I don’t think that’s even close, seeing as he thought it’d be cool to keep himself from talking anymore.”
- ✝ - Adia then tossed the tongue towards the remnant and glared at the remnant. “I didn’t like that,” Adia continued, “So I did the rest of the damage. My best guess… he knew he was in for it, so he was just trying to give us some extra problems that we didn’t need to deal with, but what do I know… I’m not a general.” She then remained sitting there until she was dismissed or given another order; trying to be on her best behavior in hopes for some kind of small reward, which at this point could have just been lunch for all she cared.

☙ The New Child responded by holding up a dismembered tongue, making Shakaya grimace slightly in both disgust and irritation as she glanced back in the Remnant's direction. She kept her ears on the infantry soldier's words, however, as she glared at it. It had actually bitten off it's own tongue, making that choice over the choice to speak. It probably knew that it was about to done away with, anyway, but the fact that it'd cause itself so much extra pain was bewildering. Was that simply it's way of revenge on them, or was there something that it really thought so vital to hide?
☙ "What could be so important that it'd rather bite of its tongue than speak...?" She mused aloud, somewhat under her breath. But...in all likelihood, it probably was just trying to cause us irritation." She eventually nodded, turning back towards the New Child.
☙ "But still...since we weren't able to get anything out of it, perhaps we should try talking to the victim about the attack he received." She just briefly glanced at the wounded Remnant. "Do away with it - it's of no more use to us. And then come with me back to the room where the victim is being held." She instructed coldly, just waiting as she kept her place by the wall.

And They Shall Reign. - ✝ - “Opened casket or closed?” Adia thought to herself as she heard the general’s orders, and got up to walk towards the remnant. She smirked evilly at the remnant and pulled its jaw close to her head. It struggled and squirmed in its place as she held a firm grip on him. He was weak so he couldn’t pull back much at all, and she brought his mouth close to his.
- ✝ - Smoke and hot air began to seep from her lips as she charged up a fireball within her own jaws. She punched his throat causing his mouth to reflexively open and then opened her own, unleashing a fearsome breath of fire, and a fireball shot into the back of his throat. Being as close as she was, she got blown back a bit, and was covered in cinders. She got up, dazed, and stumbled a bit, “Too close,” she thought as she fell back against the wall.
- ✝ - She quickly got a hold of herself and walked down the hall, holding herself up on nearby walls and doors as she followed Shakaya. As she walked on, the daze finally stopped and she stretched out, popping her back and joints before running up to Shakaya and following her closely

♟ But You'd Look So Much Better inside out ♟
☙ Glancing back as she gave the order and began to walk away, Shakaya turned to see the New Child bringing the Remnant's jaw close to her own. At first, the General wondered what she was doing, but as she the smoke started to seep from above the wolf woman's own mouth, she started realizing what she was planning. Everything happened in a matter of moments once the infantry Child got the Remnant's mouth open.
☙ That was the end of that Remnant, as the resulting blast blew back the New Child as well with a thud. She seemed a bit disoriented at first as she got up again, but as soon as the General realized that she was alright and slowly following, she turned and started walking down the hall again.
☙ The New Child seemed to be trailing behind a bit, at first, but eventually, she suddenly caught up. It seemed like she'd recovered, now. Shakaya glanced in her direction, the slightest tinge of a smile on her face. "Was it necessary to be so dramatic?" She asked, referring to the way the New Child had decided to do away with the Remnant. Even now, there were still a few cinders covering the soldier.
☙ As they reached the cage that contained the bitten human, she turned back to her once more. "Your performance with the Remnant was adequate - I'll leave it to you. See what you can get out of the man, but remember that he's still human for the time being." She instructed, simply leaning against the wall again as she waited, handing the New Child the key to the cage.

And They Shall Reign. - ✝ - Adia nodded slightly at the general’s first question, and answered quickly, “Well,” Adia began, “I was gonna try and burn it up from the inside out to see if it was even possible; but I didn’t want to kiss it or anything and use regular firebreath because it was kinda gross looking. So I went with a fireball, but I charged it up way too much for that small task and I also didn’t think twice about the fact that instead of going down into its stomach, that it would just explode at the back of its neck.”
- ✝ - By the time she finished talking, they were already at the containment cell, and Adia acknowledged Shakaya’s order with a simple, “Yes, Ma’am,” before taking the key and opening the cage to step in. “Alright,” Adia began to talk, “Let me start by telling you just how lucky you are to still be considered human right now, keeping in mind that that may change soon. If you weren’t human, then I would have begun by tossing you against the wall, and then I probably would have thrown an elbow into your throat. I then would have taken my dagger and started hacking off limbs until I got what I needed; and when I ran out, I would have moved on to melting your face into an unrecognizable glob of flesh with fire. And if I couldn’t get what I needed, I would finally end you the way I wanted to end the last remnant, by burning you inside out with a final kiss of death. But I can’t do that, you’re human. When you’re confirmed to have mutated, which will happen, your death can be quick, and painless; but that’s only after I get what I want from you. So… you have a few minutes until a confirmed test saying I can kick the everliving daylights out of you; so why don’t you tell me, while you still have a chance, what you allegedly stole from that remnant.”
- ✝ - Without hesitating for a second longer, the man pulled out a gold chain necklace and handed it to Adia saying, “Here.”
- ✝ - Adia smiled and took the necklace and said, “Thanks,” before turning to Shakaya and stepping out of the cage. “It’s nothing,” Adia said, “This belongs to him, he didn’t steal anything. He wasn’t prepared to have to guard something with his life like the remnant seemed to be, so he just gave me the first thing he found in his pocket. If he had hesitated then that would have meant he was still hiding something.”
- ✝ - After a short moment of silence, Adia spoke up again, “Although,” she said, “There is the slight chance that this was what he was hiding, and has no idea of its value to the remnant. If that’s the case… then that might be a real problem, because the only lead left is whatever this is supposed to be, or the apparently rogue New Child.”

♟ But You'd Look So Much Better inside out ♟
☙ Shakaya just gave a slight chuckle at the New Child's explanation of why she'd done away with the Remnant the way she had. At least she was creative, and willing to test her own abilities. She was also different than most of the other New Children she'd commanded - she seemed normal during most interactions, but the way she'd treated the Remnant and was talking now made her sound utterly ruthless when it came to such things. It was fascinating.
☙ As she accepted the order and entered the human's containing room, Shakaya kept listening as she waited, resting against the wall with her eyes closed. She was still smiling slightly, only straightening back up as she heard the New Child leave the cage. That'd been fast.
☙ The wolf woman had only a gold chain necklace in her hands, making Shakaya blink at first, but she listened to her explanation. ...That was all the man had given her, huh? She was quiet for a moment, thinking. She wondered whether or not it did have any real significance, or whether it was in fact just something he'd given in his hopes to appease them. It didn't particularly look like anything important... It was too bad they hadn't been able to get more out of the Remnant itself.
☙ Eventually, she just let out a slight sigh, reaching out to take the necklace. She'd have it examined by the scientists. "Very well. It seems that's all we have to go on. I'll report this to my superiors and the other Generals, and tell them to keep an out for any rogue New Children. We may have to search for tunnels, or perhaps even prepare a search team up to the Surface, to see if we can figure out what's going on. For now, keep an eye out as well as you go about your regular duties until the next course of action is decided." She eventually ordered. She was quiet for a last moment, before smiling just slightly again. "And good work." She finally decided to voice.

- ✝ - Adia listened intently to Shakaya, dropping the necklace into her hand and letting her arm fall to her side. She kept her gaze down and away from the general as she talked; it seemed that it was, in essence, a formal acknowledgement of her supposed inferiority to humans. She awaited for the next order, but none came for now, and instead, the, as odd as it seemed, kind words of praise from the general, “Good work.” At the sound of those words, Adia’s ears flicked just a bit, and she gave off a slight smile, though trying to hide it in the shadow of her hairline as she looked downwards.
- ✝ - “Humans,” Adia thought, “They are almost to us what God once was to them. I want to think this over some more sometime… but for now… I’d best pay attention.” Adia wiped her expression from her face and refocused on Shakaya. When she realized the general had stopped speaking, she looked up slightly, and asked her, “Your orders?”

♟ But You'd Look So Much Better inside out ♟
☙ It was hard to tell, the New Child holding her gaze down, but she seemed smile just a bit at the praise. It made Shakaya feel odd, speaking such things to a New Child...she wasn't sure if it was a pleasant or uncomfortable feeling. The woman herself looked down a bit. Normally, she never would've given any kind words to one of the wolf woman's kind, but it seemed like there was something special about this one. She was genuinely impressed, something that she hadn't come across in a long time.
☙ She absently shuffled the necklace in her hands as the New Child spoke again. "For now, I don't think that there's much else that can be done about this case, and there are no other urgent needs. I will accompany you back to your containing room for the time being." She decided. As good of job as she'd done, they'd been stalemated for now. She looked down at the chain again. Hopefully something that kind give them a clue about what'd been going on could be discovered with examination. But for now, they'd done all that they could. She started walking towards the infantry cages, gesturing for the New Child to follow.

- ✝ - After she heard the general’s words, she nodded, and replied, “Yes, ma’am,” without any hint of complaint. “This is kind of humiliating,” Adia thought to herself, distraught and indecisive about how she felt about it, “I don’t mind taking orders; but the fact that she hates my kind so much. It’s frustrating, but I’ll manage… for now.”
- ✝ - As Shakaya turned to go, Adia waited for her gesture to follow, not wanting to ruin any good will she had managed to whip up by doing anything other than exactly what she was ordered to do. After the general began to walk towards the cages which she could never seem to stay away from for long, she followed closely; keeping the exact same distance as they were when Shakaya had moved for her to follow.
- ✝ - “This sucks,” Adia thought, as she felt her stomach growl a bit, “I do pretty much everything perfectly; but I managed to get the worst possible pair-up at the same time. Still, it’s comforting to know that I managed to make a good first impression on an impossible person. Maybe I earned myself a bit of respect too… I can only hope so.”

♟ But You'd Look So Much Better inside out ♟
☙ The New Child indeed followed, the rest of the walk back to the infantry cages passing in silence. Shakaya passed her a few glances back, but didn't say anything. She seemed to be moving very carefully, remaining at exactly the same distance the entire time. Was she trying to make, or at least not lose the good first impression she'd made? The woman couldn't help but gave a small, odd smile.
☙ With the containing rooms for the New Children not being far away, they reached them quite quickly. Trying to remember where each of the infantry soldiers belonged, she stopped when she reached the cage that belonged to #PI077A. They were small spaces, the entire area where the cages where housed smelling like grime. She herself couldn't wait to get out of here again, but she held open the door on the cage, gesturing for the wolf woman to enter. Afterwards, she'd lock it up again until the next time the New Child was needed.
☙ "I'm going to go deliver the necklace to the scientists and converse with my fellow Generals and the Parliament about what actions to take next. I'll be sure to keep you in mind for any future assignments or missions that might come up during this case." She decided. This New Child had done a find job...definitely one to keep in mind for future use.
[[OOC: That about the end for this thread? Maybe we should time-skip a bit and continue the plot in a new thread soon? What do you think?]]

- ✝ - Adia slowly walked into her cage, her head and her gaze down. Even a pet would have gotten some kind of reward. She didn’t say anything though, and pretended to be content with it for now. She sat down in the back corner of her cage, leaning against the bars; she cringed a bit as she heard the door shut and the gate lock once again, and tried not to look up at Shakaya again.
- ✝ - Adia listened to the general carefully as she talked. She forced up a slight smile at her last words, and then immediately dropped it, too depressed to look up again. Adia looked up for a moment as Shakaya was leaving, just in time to see the prison guards salute her as she left. Once she was gone, Adia finally let loose with her emotions. She couldn’t do much in the cage but she lit herself up in a fire dance and punched the side of the cage with all of her strength.
- ✝ - “What’s wrong with me?!” Adia thought to herself as she stopped quickly, and the fire enveloping her limbs, ears, and tail vanished quickly, “Any other soldier I would have taught a lesson or two until they put me to sleep.” The fire had scorched and burned a part of her clothes. She knew she probably wouldn’t be able to get anymore until the next time she went to the junkyards, and normally tried to keep from using her fire dance at all because of it.
- ✝ - When she looked up she saw the two guards, with a slightly worried look on their faces. They both had their guns drawn and trained at her; they were only tranquilizers, but looked just like any real pistols. Adia fell back into her sitting position, with her arms crossed, staring at the guards. “Let me guess,” she said to them, “You two helped yourself to my food again while I was out.” The guards holstered their weapons and one of them tossed a half a piece of bread into the cell before walking away. Adia crawled up quickly and snatched the food away and began eating.
- ✝ - It wasn’t like anyone cared much if the guards stole a New Children’s rations, so it wouldn’t do much good to complain; but if a New Child were to get loose on account of that, then there would be a problem. As Adia was eating, one of the guards held up his gun while she was distracted, and fired at her. The tranquilizer hit her shoulder and she growled angrily at the guard but was quickly out cold in her cell, and fell to the floor with a thud.
(OOC: Yea… I just finished this, and wrote it up to where it’d make sense to take place, chronologically, before the “Slaves” thread.)
