Name: Lucifer Auditore de Firenze. Occasionally referred to as “Luci”.
Age: Twenty-four years
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Thankfully, Lucifer doesn’t have very many mutations in particular – the only one he really has is two small, knobby horns on the top of his head. He can hide them so long as he keeps his hair properly groomed. Hats are also convenient. The horns themselves don't seem to serve a purpose other than being an annoyance. He also has teeth that are slightly sharper than normal.
Skills: Like most Remnants, Lucifer does have some skills that make him “more than human”. Thankfully, these skills are not the flashy type that draw attention to him wherever he goes, although he does use them in moderation, if ever.
- Enhanced Strength: Having enhanced strength means that Lucifer can easily pick up extremely heavy objects without so much as breaking a sweat. The fact that he gets angry easily and tends to throw the nearest thing at whoever angered him does not help him in hiding this “enhanced strength” – but he manages to at least fake exertion or blame adrenaline in dire situations.
- Enhanced Nimbleness/Agility: Enhanced agility, or “nimbleness”, if you prefer, means that Lucifer can easily navigate areas that would make most humans give up without even trying. His agility is slightly higher than that of an experienced acrobat, and if anyone asks he can say that he used to be in the circus when he was younger.
Origin:: Naturally-born.
Summary: A choleric Remnant whose true dream is to be human.
Relationships:- Italia de Firenze: -mother- Italia is Lucifer’s mother, so of course he holds her in high regard. She was the one who taught him how to survive, and how to hide what he really is.
- Aspen Martineau: -close friend & crush- It’s pitiful that Lucifer would “like” anyone at all, but unfortunately he does. The fact that she is a human, someone normal, doesn’t help this. When he isn’t thinking about his behaviour and trying to soften it around her, he regards her as a close friend to whom he can tell almost anything. Almost. He can’t very well tell her that he’s a Remnant, now, can he?
Inventory:- Lighter + Cigarettes – The only reason he started smoking was to prevent any New Child with heightened olfaction from being able to tell that he isn’t really human. Cigarettes and cigarette smoke stink, and he’s comforted by the fact that he’s more likely to smell like stale smoke than anything else. The stench, of course, isn’t particularly pleasant; but at least it keeps most people (and New Children) away. In all honesty, he really shouldn’t be smoking because of his little condition, but, well…what can you do.

Weapon: History: Despite living in the Western district of Arcis, Italia de Firenze was not well off like most of the other citizens. In fact, she might as well have been from the Southern district – she was poor, with barely enough money to scratch in for rent. She had never finished her education, and so did not have the proper qualifications for a job; the only way to make money that she could see, was, unfortunately, to be a prostitute. She did not have enough money to buy a New Child, and so it was the only way to support herself. For several years, she was lucky, having never gotten pregnant. Her luck, however, ended one night, when she returned home after serving a client, sick and nauseous.
A few weeks later, she came to the conclusion that she was pregnant – she had missed her period and often suffered from “morning sickness”. She decided to seek the client out, since she couldn’t bear the thought of abortion, couldn’t afford it, and could not see any other way. At first, the client, a man by the name of Claude Brown, rejected her; after the third time pleading him, he gave way, and allowed her a place to stay at his house. Italia recuperated for nine months, living in relative peace, in the most luxurious environment she had ever known. While she lived in the man’s house, she read, learned, eager to soak up the knowledge that she had never been able to before.
She gave birth to a baby boy, although it was immediately evident that there was something a bit…odd about him. He seemed to have two knobs at the top of his head; horns. Only Italia had noticed them, what with Claude being disinterested in the child. As far as he was concerned, he had taken her in, and now it was time for her to leave. He wanted nothing, whatsoever, to do with a child. He kicked her out several weeks later. Up till that point, Italia had not named her child, having not been sure what she should name him. She decided that “Lucifer” – the fallen angel thrown down from heaven – would be fitting for him, since it described, to her at least, the way the little boy had fallen from “heaven”, heaven being Claude’s home.
After being kicked out, she returned to her rundown apartment in the Western district, returned to just barely getting by with rent. Her job was made all the harder because of the extra mouth to feed, and she no longer wanted to be a tool for men to use. Italia had seen the "better life", experienced it, and she was hungry for more. She wanted a better life, particularly for Lucifer – she wanted him to experience the life and the education that she never had. And it would be made all the harder because of his…problem. He was a Remnant. "Not human". A "mutant". Except she couldn't see it.
To her, he seemed like a normal boy. Sure, he had some horns at the top of his head, but…did that really make him sub-human? Less than human? She couldn't understand. But it didn't matter anyway, because she was going to raise him just like any other boy. And for that, she needed a job.
Because of her lungs, she couldn't enter a profession that required a large amount of labour. She decided that she would become a teacher – and for that, she needed knowledge. She had already learned quite a bit, had refreshed her memory from old school lessons, and decided to join a workshop that took place near her home. The workshop had been set up specifically for adults who had never finished their education and desired to now.
Whenever she went to class, she would either take Lucifer to the school, or leave him in the apartment when he was old enough to understand that he couldn't go anywhere. He would hide in the dark, cold apartment, reading the many books that his mother would leave for him. He discovered that he liked a particular brand of fiction called "romance", something that his mother wouldn't fail to tease him for.
Lucifer started leaving the apartment without his mother's permission – always with a hat on, never talking to strangers because his mother said he was "different" and that no one would like him – and would attempt to do odd jobs for money. He noticed how his mother struggled to bring food and money home, noticed how she was always tired, and was even more aware of the times she would sacrifice her food for him. He was quite convinced that he would rather starve than see his mother suffering like that, but she persisted, telling him to eat so that he could "grow up strong", whatever that meant. It didn’t stop him from leaving the apartment to try to help support their small family.
Whenever he was out, he would notice other children making fun of either himself or his mother, spreading rumours or just plain degrading them. It angered him – how the children would laugh and giggle and spew insults. More likely than not that was how his zealous, presumptuous personality developed – angered by the demeaning words, he started to have tantrums in the middle of the street, started yelling and grabbing any object that was near him and hurling it at his aggressors. This, naturally, brought a crowd of people running, within them his mother. Seeing the fierce rage in her son that was threatening to burst in a spectacle of a Remnant’s power, she managed to calm him down with soft words and, after apologizing profusely to the children, their parents, the other people, she took him home.
At the apartment, his lungs suffered; the sheer exertion he had shown in the street took its toll on his body as his lungs, weak from the disease he had inherited from his mother, nearly gave in and collapsed from the effort of forcing oxygen within them. When he had managed to calm down fully, his mother gave him “the talk”; told him that he was not really a “human”, that he was different from others, and that was why she had wanted him to stay at home. The knowledge hurt him – he had a reason now, but that did not mean that he liked it. His mother was human. His father, according to her, was human – so why was he not? What had gone wrong? What had he done wrong?
From that point on, it was his desire to be “human” – to be “normal”, because, as he was, if what his mother told him was true (the government hates “Remnants”; they’re trying to kill them all), then he really shouldn’t be alive. And yet he still wanted to be alive, except as a human. His mother taught him how to “be” human – that he would have to hide his strength, and any other unnatural abilities he had, if they surfaced. She told him about the horns on his head, that he would always have to make sure that his hair was properly combed so that they weren’t visible. She taught him about the excuses that he could make, taught him how to use his mind to strategize the best possible outcome of any situation.
Of course, knowing that he was not a human, knowing that he was a fake in a sea of genuines, made him wary, and suspicious of everything. When his mother finally got the teacher’s license that she so desired, he almost refused to attend school, simply because he was afraid of being in contact with other people. Afraid of being touched, of being found out – afraid of letting his temper spiral out of control and doing something wrong again. When his mother looked at him with such pleading eyes, though, he didn’t have the heart to disagree, and, remembering the days she had gone on without food, he enrolled himself into school. He was a naturally bright child, but he still got upset easily for the littlest thing, which earned him a somewhat scary reputation in the school. He wasn’t a bully, he was simply…bad-tempered, a trait that would follow him later on in life.
Learning about the government of Arcis gave him aspirations. Specifically, the desire to become a general. If he became a general, then he could really become a human, and he could get rich and help his mother. Then, she could live in luxury, without having to work and exert herself. Even teaching turned out to be a strenuous job, and her lungs seemed to be growing weaker with each passing day. Besides studying, he also trained, physically, when he could; this not only improved his already-monstrous strength, but also gave him a reason to be able to perform feats that to him seemed like nothing. He also trained in battle tactics – borrowed books, began to read about them. He even tried his hand at martial arts, because a general was supposed to be a tactician and a great fighter.
When he was eighteen, he graduated from school. By that point, his mother’s situation had improved slightly and she was able to get more money than was needed. But she still had to work, and Lucifer didn’t really want her to. She had worked hard enough for two lifetimes, in his opinion, and now was the time to pay her back. He would have to apply to become a general – and to do that, he would have to go to the Northern district, where the government of Arcis resided.
In the Northern district, he met a young woman, about his age, named Aspen Martineau. She was, in his opinion, a very pretty girl, and happened to be the daughter of a politician. She was very different from him – quiet, softspoken, entirely different from the people that had teased him in the Western district. Without realizing it, he began to change his behaviour around her, trying to become “nicer”, less loud and irate. During the two years he spent in the Northern district, he met with her often, and began to consider her a close friend. Soon after that he developed romantic feelings for her, although he never voiced nor acted upon them – because she was normal, and he was not, and it wouldn’t be fitting.
He finally submitted an application for a general position when he turned twenty-one, having continued his education in the Northern district and managing to not be detected and exposed as a Remnant. To his surprise, his application was accepted; feeling more than slightly relieved, he returned to the Western district to inform his mother of his victory. He intended to purchase a mansion for her in the Northern district, but she refused, saying that she preferred to stay in the Western district; he settled for buying her a nice house, and, after returning to the Northern district, sent her a good sum of money every month to make sure that she no longer had to work for food and for anything else she wanted.
See The Light:- Intelligent – He is capable of understanding situations, people, and is capable of coming up with logical solutions based on a problem given to him. Even if he doesn’t use this logic and intelligence very often – it’s still there, and it’ll come out when necessary.
- Passionate – Lucifer tends to act on his emotions, which is the reason he is so passionate in almost everything he does. He is almost incapable of bottling them (his feelings) up, and if he does, then something negative is bound to happen because of it.
- Loyal – He is the type of person that will remain faithful to ethics, morals, an ideal, or a person, no matter how much pressure is placed onto him to betray them. Even if a person he trusts has been proven guilty, he will continue to support them, believing that they are still the person he once knew; he can be considered naïve in that regard.
- Honest – He is honest to a fault, to the point of being blunt. He hates lying; the only thing he really lies about is being human, and that is such a big lie in and of itself that he just has no desire to lie about anything else. His entire life, existence being a lie is enough.
- Independent – Lucifer is not the type of person to allow others to do things for him. He will do things by himself, even if it kills him; and he is confident enough in his abilities that he won’t dare to trust anyone who tries to do something that he himself can do just fine.
- Strong-willed – Also known as “stubborn” or “bullheaded”, Lucifer will not back down when he finds himself being opposed. He also refuses to have his resolve and ideals bent, and has a will of iron.
- Self-reliant – This ties into his “independence”; he makes his own decisions. He is an autonomous body, and self-sufficient, partially because he doesn’t trust most other people, and partially because he has no desire to be a burden on anyone.
- Reliable – Lucifer is not one to run out on a promise. If he says something, he usually means it, and if he makes a promise, he’ll try to keep it, even if it kills him. He doesn’t like lying, as stated before, and not keeping a promise is the same as lying in his eyes.
- Confident – He is confident in himself; perhaps over-confident. He is certain that most of the things he does are right, and even if he isn’t, he hides it with a zealous and presumptuous attitude that more than makes up for it. It could be called a façade – but then again, he is a bit of a hypocrite and refuses to see it as “lying”, since it’s only lying to himself.
- Competitive – Lucifer Auditore de Firenze hates losing. Whenever he is “in” something, he intends to win – he is somewhat of an overachiever, and strives to be the best in everything he does, to the point of being a perfectionist. This side of his personality is, perhaps, a remainder of the time when his mother was poor and could barely make enough money to support the both of them.
- Compassionate – Most of the time, he acts with his heart, not his mind, which is exactly why he is so rash and impulsive. It is also the reason he feels sympathy for the suffering and pain of others, particularly those of poverty.
- Empathetic – Despite what his nature may tell you, he is surprisingly empathetic, which ties into his compassion for others.
- Dedicated – In all senses of the word, Lucifer is dedicated to his job: protecting Arcis. While at work, he can forget that he is a Remnant, can believe just a little bit more that he is a “human”. Becoming a general was the one thing that Lucifer was convinced would make him feel “normal”. And it does, to a point.
- Perseveres – As stated before, Lucifer has a will of iron and will not be bent. He will keep on moving no matter how horrible the odds seem. He is determined, and persists at whatever he does, to the point of almost seeming one-track-minded.
- Ethical/moralistic – He has a set of morals and ethics that he tries to follow, despite what his attitude might imply. And he makes a point to follow it most of the time, if his temper doesn’t get in the way.
- Respects others’ privacy – Just as he does not want others to shove their way into his life, he does not shove his way into others’ lives. Most of the time, he recognizes and respects boundaries, and does not pry.
Fear The Dark:- Paranoid – Being a Remnant in a crowd of humans is bound to make you paranoid at some point. He’s always afraid that sometime, somewhere, somehow, someone is going to discover that he isn’t really a human. He is always suspicious of almost everyone.
- Short-tempered – Ah, yes, Lucifer and his famously short fuse…he gets angry quite easily. He also gets impatient quite easily, so it’s not wise to keep him waiting on almost anything. If he said he wanted that report at 15 o’clock sharp, he means it, soldier! No, being two minutes late is not trivial at all.
- Pessimistic – He always expects the worst possible scenario in almost any situation, which ties into his paranoia. However, it can also make him a good strategist if he uses his intelligence.
- Sarcastic – “Lying” and “sarcasm” are not the same; he’s being quite open about the fact he is lying, since most of the time he says something that contrasts with the obvious truth. And most of the time, he’s trying to be humorous, trying to lighten the mood – either that, or he’s being purposely demeaning.
- Loud – Lucifer is not a nice, quiet, kind person. He is a loud person. His voice is loud; he doesn’t hesitate to hide his emotions or opinions.
- Hypocrite – He is hypocritical. While he might allow himself to do something, he won’t allow the next person to do the exact same thing. While he has certain personality traits, he might loathe those very same traits in other people. Quite blatantly, he has double-standards.
- Blunt – As stated before, he is honest. He is honest to the point of being absolutely blunt. Most of the time, he doesn’t notice if he hurts someone because of his honesty; he is insensitive in that regard.
- Vain – He likes his appearance, plain and simple. He likes his hair, and in his opinion he is rather handsome. He is also proud of his accomplishments in life; namely getting his mother out of the poverty line.
- Choleric – This ties into his short fuse; he is choleric, and in this sense he tends to show that he is angry, not just feel it. Namely, throwing the closest object at whatever it was that angered him.
- Impulsive – Lucifer is ruled by his heart, not his mind, which means he has a tendency to act irrationally and on the slightest provocation. He doesn’t usually think – he just acts, usually on a sudden, irrational urge or desire.
- Dense – He is insensitive, and also dense. While he is intelligent, certain things take a while to get through to him – namely the feelings of others. He is so paranoid and wary that he usually fails to realize if someone likes him or hates him.
- Arrogant – “Arrogance” is, in his case, something that is more of an unknown quality than something he is actually conscious of. He is not aware that he exudes self-importance and self-confidence, and it’s not as if he purposely disregard or demeans other people. He would be a horrible person if he did that.
- Overprotective – He is not overprotective over many people; the one person he really is overprotective to, at the moment at least, is Aspen. He is too worried about her safety to actually allow her to be “independent”, so he tends to do whatever he can for her. He also gets jealous easily and usually tries to keep her (or any other individual he is overprotective of) in sight most of the time.
- Domineering – Lucifer tends to exercise power, control, and authority over others, often to an excessive amount. He is not doing it consciously; it is simply sheer paranoia and the need to “protect”: to protect Arcis, Aspen, and most everyone else.
- Clingy – Despite the fact that he retains an independent demeanour and attempts to be self-reliant, he becomes emotionally dependent on certain people. These “certain people” being Aspen, his mother, and anyone else he happens to feel close to. Tying into his overprotectiveness, he feels that he has to be in their company almost constantly.
- Possessive – He is a very possessive, materialistic person, whether it be over actual objects or other people.
Give It To Me:- Thunderstorms – Something about the loud coldness of it attracts him. The flashing lights, the rain – thunderstorms are beautiful.
- Cats – They are quiet, noble creatures that have managed to earn his respect.
- Quiet, softspoken people – Quiet, softspoken people also earn his respect, since they don’t usually argue with him and they’re good company.
- Competitions – People who like to win like competitions, since they are usually confident that they will win, like competitions. Lucifer is no different. He is so confident in his abilities that he will readily enter almost any contest with the intent of being the victor.
- Sweets and candy – He likes sweet things. Particularly candy and chocolate. Lucifer has a rather large sweet tooth, and would easily eat cotton candy for breakfast if he could get it.
- The number thirteen – Somehow, “thirteen” has always appealed to him. Perhaps because of its unlucky connotation; perhaps he simply likes the sound of it.
- Having his hair long – It ties into his trait of being “vain”. He likes having his hair long, since he thinks it highlights his natural splendour.
- Being in the right – Of course he likes being in the right. There’s something wonderful about knowing that you are right, while everyone else is wrong.
- Having his ego coveted – He also likes having his ego petted. Seeing how big it is, that can be a problem, since he has a rather exaggerated sense of self-importance.
- Being in charge – He likes being in charge. He likes having power. He likes telling people what to do. That all comes with being a general.
- Being in control of the situation – Lucifer also enjoys being in control of the situation. He does not like having his control undermined – so whenever it is, he tries to get his control and composure back as quickly as possible.
- Spicy food – Don’t tell anyone, but he’s something of a masochist. Well, he must be, if he enjoys having his tongue burned merely by eating something.
- Ancient architecture – He was always interested in architecture, particularly the architecture of “olden times”. Like the Ancient Romans, or the Greeks, or medieval European architecture.
- Reading (especially romance novels) – At some point during his life, he somehow managed to find a soft spot for romance novels. He likes the scenarios and the way they play out, particularly the ones with happy endings.
- Paintings – He doesn’t paint himself, mostly because he lacks the artistic talent. However, he would like to learn, and likes looking at paintings, similar to the way he likes ancient architecture.
Get It Away:- Arrogant individuals – They’re arrogant, enough said. They think they’re better than everyone, and that is what drives him insane.
- Overly loud individuals – Overly loud people are too loud, as the title implies. He can’t stand it. When they’re arrogant, it’s even worse.
- Overly happy individuals – Perhaps they’re even worse than arrogant or overly loud individuals. They simply see the bright side of everything – and with every “brightness”, there has to be a “darkness”, which they somehow fail to see.
- Stupid individuals – Idiocy bothers him. Greatly.
- Individuals who think they’re better than him – Why should people think they’re better than him? He’s obviously better than everyone else, so there’s no reason for anyone to get all high and might on him.
- Most everyone, really – Rather self-explanatory, don’t you think?
- Rodents – Mice, rats; they’re all the same. Creepy, small creatures that simply serve to cause panic and discomfort.
- Romantic movies – Well, he likes them, but not the way they make him blush. Ugh, his reputation!
- People touching his things – As stated before, he is possessive, so he hates it when other people touch his things, with or without his permission. He gets anxious and more than slightly irate.
- People touching him – He is afraid of other people touching him – mostly because he assumes that they will somehow realize that he is a Remnant.
- Being in enclosed spaces – He is a bit claustrophobic, which makes him avoid most small spaces, even if he is agile enough to navigate them.
- Being told what to do – Lucifer is a leader, not a follower, so he hates it when others tell him what to do. Expect a full-out tantrum. Or an object being thrown.
- Being talked back to – He likes to exercise his authority, and he hates it when someone doesn’t listen to him; or worse, talks back to him. Yet again, expect a tantrum or objects being thrown.
- Being undermined – He dislikes it when his authority is undermined. It’s his authority after all, and he is a general, so everyone has to listen to him.
- Being ignored – Lucifer is not the type of person who likes being left out of a crowd, despite his paranoia and fear of being touched and found out. He hates the idea of not knowing what is going on, and, as such, hates being ignored.
In My Nightmares:- Being touched – The thought of anyone touching him at all makes his throat choke up and his blood turn to ice, if only for the possibility that whoever is touching him will somehow sense that he isn’t a human being.
- Aspen finding out that he is a Remnant – The very possibility that Aspen could find out that he is a Remnant gives him nightmares. Because, if Aspen finds out that he isn’t normal, then she will surely hate him and never smile at him ever again. The possibility of Aspen hating him scares him more than dying does.
- A loved one or himself dying – "Dying" is something permanent. So horribly permanent that he hates it and fears it. "Dying" before it is his time to "die" is horrifying – never seeing Aspen again is horrifying – seeing her or any other person that he cares about dying is horrifying.
In My Dreams:- Becoming a human – Ever since he was born and knew that he was “different” from others, Lucifer has only wanted to be human, because being “human” is being “normal”. He never asked to be born different.
- Acceptance – Conflicting with his desire to be human and his fear of anyone, especially Aspen, discovering that he is a Remnant, Lucifer wishes to be accepted as who and what he is. Mostly by Aspen – but it wouldn't hurt to have others accept him, too.
- Equality among all – A dream that most people would think, This guy is the last person to want that. But, surprisingly, he does; why should different people be treated any differently? Perhaps it doesn’t make sense, and perhaps it will never come true; but it’s still there. The dream in itself is most likely a side-effect from meeting Aspen and desiring her approval, although he would likely dream it even if he had never met her.
