AND THEN HIDE FROM MY SIGHT!
The day was so cold and misty, it was hard to see were one was going. Reina too felt a chill down her spine as she rubbed her hands together for warmth. She had just done with a small mission – just scout the area and keep your eyes and ears for anything suspicious. It wasn’t hard one bit, not for a thief at least. But nothing of ‘suspicion’ was found, just a lonely town like place. She had enough time before heading back to her rusty steel cage. How she dreaded it - but luckily she was two hours early in completing her mission that her reporting time – so she had a bit of time in the open.
Searching through her bag, she took out a gold locket. The locket was heart shaped with some woman’s picture in it. It didn’t belong to the new child, but old habits do die hard. She gazed at for a while, why did she even steal it in the first place – perhaps it beauty and value attracted her. But what was its use now? Back then it was just for survival – steal and sell and eat with what you get from value of the stolen good. Those moments may have been harsh but she enjoyed them. Along with Ren, they were swift and agile in their work. That is until they did get caught. But she was still graceful for the fact that they were still together.
Lowering the locket from a direct stare at eye, Reina walked along the side of the lake still troubled with these thoughts. All those memories of the past irritated her. Back the and now? She urged to be her own master. The locket she held now didn’t have any value anymore. A sudden mix of anger, irritation and frustration overcame her. Such mood swings was a common trait she held. Perhaps it was the gold locket that brought these emotions up in the first place, yet she didn’t want to let go. She felt like breaking something at this point, her fists crunched tightly.
Looking a bit away from where she stood was a small rock, probably as big as her fist. Without a second thought, the new child gave a quick yet strong kick at the large pebble. It was lifted of the ground and went straight into the mist. The female felt better after doing so, removing all her anger as soon as possible. Even though a slight remain, she gazed at thick fog attentively. *Why didn’t the Rock make from a sound yet?* she thought. If it had hit the ground or water, it should have made at least some sound, and Reina having animal DNA of a cat, it would easily be picked up – even a human would have picked the sound up as the surroundings where silent. *Did it hit a bush or ...something else? *

For once, Abel was not smiling. He was reminiscing about his encounter with Cain, here at the lake. He could still be out here after all... hunting him.
He let out a sigh and looked up... just in time to see a small dark object emerge out of the fog at an alarming pace. It was headed straight for him, and his flight or fight instincts quickly took over.
His response was decided to be fight. He stood his ground and challenged the projectile's authority, taking confidence in his speed. He thrust his left hand towards it and caught it. He was lucky, it was only a rock, and not some kind of weapon.
But that begged the question. What had sent the rock to him? He began to walk forward, pushing aside his thoughts and tossing the rock up and down in his hand.
Through the fog he began to see the figure of a young woman. When he could see her clearly, he smiled to her.
"Drop something?" He said with a smile. He then paused for a moment.
"Oh, wait... I won't forget my manners this time," He quickly added.
"My name, is Abel. Its a pleasure to meet you," He said his usual greeting. He had already said this to several people out here in the wastes, and each time he had gotten a different reaction and a different story.
He wondered how she would react, and who she was. Was she a Remnant? A New Child? Was she sane like Ali, or more insane like Sky? Was she out here for some mission like Adia, or was she here after him specifically, like Cain.
Whatever her reasons, he wanted to believe that they could become friends. The world would just become too sad if he had to fear and be suspicious of everyone he met.

Still having her eyes set at the thick fog, she was about let go of her curiosity when a figure began to emerge from the mist. So she wasn’t alone here after all. She quickly readied herself mentally in case the person planned to attack, even though physically she didn’t move a muscle. A young man perhaps as few years older that her came into vision as he proceed ahead. He had a smile on his face. Did it mean he was no threat?
-Dropped Something?- He said as he tossed flicked a rock up and down. It was the one she threw. It seemed it might have landed near him or worse, at him. She gave a low gulp as she took a breath to apologize. However before she even could, the man spoke up again which was quickly followed by an introduction. He seemed rather friendly for someone who was about or did get hit with the rock. So his name was – Abel, a strange yet familiar name. Probably in some book Ren gave her.
“Sorry...” she murmured lowly perhaps just enough to hear “Sorry about the rock!” she continued with a little voice as she looked up at him with a slight smile. Usually she would be suspicious on some stranger out of the blue, but by the way he dressed and spoke she decided he was ‘good’. “It’s nice to meet you too Abel....” she said beginning her introduction “I’m Reina”. Perhaps, he name should have come before “Its nice to..” but she was satisfied with what she said.

He caught the rock he was throwing up and down, as she first began to speak. He could barely hear what she said at first, and raised his free hand to his ear to express that he couldn't. But then she repeated herself louder, apologizing for the rock and he simply relaxed and nodded in agreement. He had no intention of punishing or rebuking her for the rock incident. He just wanted to tease her a little bit, but it was still nice to hear her apologize.
He let the rock fall to the ground besides him, having played with it enough.
"Reina?" He repeated her name. "I won't forget it," He said with a big smile.
He took a few causal steps closer. As far as he was concerned, they were friends already. Seeing as they had exchanged names. It was still possible that she was a threat to him, but he couldn't keep smiling if he swelled on such sad thoughts like that, and he so desperately wanted to keep smiling.
So he simply hoped for the best while prepared for the worst.
Having told her his name, with out her pulling a weapon on him (yet) kinda told him she was not after him specifically. However, perhaps like Adia, she might decide later that it as her duty to bring in the rouge New Child. Even if she did, he wouldn't hold it against her.
"Ah... lovely weather... wait no it isn't..." He said looking around at all the dreary fog. It was beautiful in its own right, but not exactly 'lovely weather'.
"Um, so... what brings you out here?" he said, coming to a stop only a few steps in front of her.

[/B] Her ears paused at that sentence. She wondered if he had already concluded that they were ‘friends’. For her, Friend was usually or actually only associated with Ren. It had just been a month in the infantry, and back when she was a rogue – trusted anyone was very difficult. But probably that mindset should change, the female assumed. As he advanced, she noticed the sworn patch on his neck – a new child he was. But that brought up a question - why he was here? By the way he dressed and looked – she striked out the possibilities that he was a part of the infantry. And who might live in this overgrown and abandoned lake – so he may not even belong to someone? *Is he a rogue New child?* she wondered though he could still be someone’s New child. She looked at the lake – the thick mist that moved about, and over grown plants with their freshness in the air. It wasn’t exactly weather – the place was always like this. But she nodded “It’s Pretty, looks like a painted scenery” she commented with a small smile. She was found of drawing, but with the continuous missions and free time in the cages – she hardly had anything to paint other than the dark and dreaded infantry coop. “I-I’m back from a mission” she said looking back at Abel. His The large and noticeable smile made her nervous. As she curiosity still pricked her, she asked “And what might you be doing out here?” [/blockquote][/size]. "Just enjoying my freedom," He answered her honestly. He had no intention of hiding the fact that he was rouge, even though she might decided to try and take him in.
"I normally come out here to fill up my canteens with water, but today I thought I'd hunt for something to eat," He explained.
"There are a lot of Remnants who roam around this lake, so be careful," He added. As he did, he looked around to make sure nothing was sneaking up on them. The fog was thick, but he was sure one of them would hear something if it were stalking them.
Abel was able to deduce from their conversation, that she was a New Child, seeing as she was sent out here alone, and that she was working for the military like Adia.
"So you're mission is over?" He wondered if it was worth risking her life to be sent up here alone.
"And now you're heading back, huh? Do you... have to go back?" He asked her, a bit bluntly. He hated the idea of New Children acting as slaves for their human masters. He pretty much pestered every New Child he met, with a question like this, but for potentially freeing one of his brothers and sisters... it was worth it, even if he came off as a bit annoying.

Reina gave a quick glance at him as he spoke so. It was confirmed then – he was rouge after all. But why did he let her know of it? Wasn’t he aware of the new child’s duty as a part of the infantry? Or did he do it intentionally? It did not matter to her. Her orders where to arrest or take action against anyone who didn’t that doesn’t abide to the law. But how could she? She was a rogue once before wasn’t she? All she could do was bite her lip in envy lowering her gaze.
“Yea...” she answered lowly looking back up as to answer his question. “I just had to scout the area...” she continued as she moved about a bit now – her hands caught together behind her back and her feet a move with a slight swing. Her voice louder and with a smile. It was tough for her keep still for even a while – she was rather restless. But she enjoyed a good conversation. “It was easy and short – I’ve got about an hour of free time before heading back” she spoke up with a slight cheer in her voice.
Though it was bit frustrating to see how he was free and she was not. Perhaps she was a bit jealous, but she felt open to speak to one of her kind in both ways. -........ Do you... have to go back?- |
[/i], Reina stopped where she was. Did she? Yes she did. The government did her registered in the infantry. With the advance technology – it would be easy to find a new child who didn’t return. “Yes, I” she nodded yet so cheerfully though from inside a bit glum at that. “Wanna come along?”[/color] she continued with a grin. She knew what the answer might be, but she wanted to see his reaction anyway. [/blockquote][/size]. [/div] Tagged : Abel~ Words : 301 Notes : None

I think I'll hang onto my freedom a little longer," He answered her question, half jokingly.
"So you really believe that, don't you? That you have to go back..." He said looking away. What he was saying was harsh, but he said in a cheerful tone. It would be easy to think he was mocking her, but that wasn't his intent. He just couldn't bare how sad it was.
He had to keep laughing and smiling, otherwise he'd be in tears.
"Do you really think they care about you?" Again, he spoke bluntly and cruelly with his cheerful smile.
"They sent you out here... into the wastelands... alone. For a scouting mission? It wouldn't be strange for you to have died out here... and not come back. If you didn't report in, you'd be considered MIA," He paused to let it all sink it, but before she could say anything else he spoke up again.
"In a few months, if you still didn't show up... they'd update it to KIA," He finished.
"What do you think they'll do? Send a team of humans up here? Send other New Children and risk their lives to save or recover your one life? They might not care about us... but they don't want to waste the money it costs to make us, still the same..." He continued... rambling a bit now. The smile he so desperately wanted to keep had faded away at some point.
"You think they sent you on a scouting mission? You really believe that? They sent you here alone... they wanted to see if you'd be killed or not. That's how they know if its okay to risk more of their assets..." He had seen it a few times now. A single New Child, sent out alone... very little supplies... very little equipment. Not even armed with a gun most of the time.
He turned to her... practically ready to burst in out in tear.s
"You don't have to listen to their lies... you don't have to go back to them," He called out, his breath heavy. He was too overcome with emotion... he had forced his views and values, based off of his own suffering, onto her... that might have been wrong, but he could do little to stop himself.
He couldn't stand the thought of another New Child going back to their masters, after being given a suicide mission.
It was just like Cain... Abel's bother... just like Adia... who nearly froze to death on the mountain she had tracked that remnant to.
'If I can't save this one girl in front of me... How can I dream to save all of our people?' the desperate thought occurred to him in his head.
Its true that Cain was sent after Abel... but that was personal, and Abel escaped. He wasn't sent away.
Adia and Reina were sent out on missions... missions that they were likely to never return from. It wouldn't be odd for them to just not come back. They could be free... if only they just didn't return to that place. | [atrb=style, padding: 0px 60px 10px 10px; opacity: 0.8; text-align: left] Some things, cannot be forgiven. |
