Only one person - Shakaya Johanne - knows his real identity. Age: 24 Gender: Male Sexuality: Heterosexual, but hardly thinks about that kind of thing. District: The Northern District, residing in a lab. Canon?: An Architect Summary: A very peculiar, eccentric scientist obsessed with his vision of beauty and perfection. Relationships: Shakaya Johanne - close friend - A weapon scientist and General that he is close to. The girl is very attached to him, spending almost every free hour that she has hanging by him. She sometimes gets slightly on his nerves, but he does care for her in his distant way. Inventory: A locket with holding a photograph of his family Reserved Weapon: An ornately decorated silver pistol. History: Always a peculiar child, Luke Thoru was born to an equally peculiar poor family within the Southern District. Despite their lack of money, his family was actually relatively well known in their own way. They were rebels, claiming that the Parliament was trying come up with ways to keep them down here for the sake of their own power when it would actually be possible for them to return to the Surface world if they put their focus on that instead. Luke believed them, coming to accept that it would be possible to leave the "ugly" hell that was the Southern District for the "beautiful" glory of the surface if only the right method could be researched and found. It was this dream that sparked his interest in the sciences, but unfortunately his family never had the funds to help him follow it. So he lived a life he hatred in the slums with his family, trying to teach himself what he could, until one of his family's protests went wrong. The Parliament accused them of disturbing Arcis' wellbeing, and when they refused to back down, his family was gunned down by the Parliament's guards. Even just a young boy, he was also one of the guard's intended targets, bullets shot off towards him as the government tried to erase any trace of the Thoru's. In his horror and fear, the boy turned and tried to run, but took a bullet to the shoulder that sent him down into a ditch. Still conscious, he was wise enough to stay there and "play dead" long enough for the guards to leave. For all intents and purposes, and to all public knowledge, Luke Lawrence Thoru was deceased, as dead as his parents. To this day, that's what the records still read. But the gunshot wound the boy received was hardly more than a graze, and he survived just fine. Grief-stricken and alone, he was wise enough to keep Luke Thoru dead in the eyes of the government. He gave himself the new title of "Amaranth", after a flower that was said to never wilt and to represent unending beauty. And for many years, he lived at an orphanage and wore a mask on his face, waiting until he was old enough for his face to not be immediately pegged as that the Thoru boy by anyone who'd known him, before he finally removed it and left the orphanage without a word. He went to the lab in the Northern District then, asking if he could be admitted as a live-in student if he could prove his worth. Without even a real name to give them, convincing the higher ups to give him a chance was a difficult task, but when his persistence eventually won him a chance, he quickly impressed them with his dedication, intelligence, and unusual way of thinking. Keeping his true motive and his hatred for the Parliament secret, he got a position there - one that rapidly increased in rank as he grew up. For the most part, it was a satisfying but solitary existence, but when he was 18, a girl named Shakaya Johanne, the daughter of a senior colleague, became a scientist, as well, and he quickly took a liking to her own, somewhat unusual nature. She latched on to him quickly, almost becoming like a shadow to him. When the New Child project was conceived, he found the idea intriguing, eagerly accepting the position he was offered as Architect thanks to his artists vision and outlook. Things quickly went sour, though, and he had his colleagues were attacked in an incident that sent him to the hospital for months and that ultimately killed Shakaya's father, making the girl cling to him even tighter. Since then, he's had both a distaste and fear of the New Children he helps create, but he still continues his work. After all, the New Children are one the greatest technological achievements, and do things that most people never even considered possible for a human-like being as well as seem to be immune to the Remnant mutation. Surely if something like their creation is possible, it's also possible to find a way to make regular humans immune to the chemical tainting the Surface as well? He continues to study and create the creatures he hates for this purpose, striving to make the vision his parents instilled in him come true by finding the key that will help reclaim the Surface as humankind's home.
