Location: Northern District - The Labs ♟ But You'd Look So Much Better inside out ♟
☙ Shakaya looked around the surrounding hallways of the lab quarters, partially at a loss. Amaranth... Where was Amaranth? "Ama...?" She called quietly, creaking open the entrance to the man's own quarters when her knocking got no response. But the room was empty, and all that greeted her was silence. She bit her lip slightly, before looking down again at the necklace she was carrying. She'd checked the research rooms, the lounge, and now even his quarters, but he was no where to be found. Today had been one of the rare occasions where he'd had a day off work...hadn't he said something about heading to the Eastern District earlier? But even so, she would've expected him to be back by now...
☙ She hoped that that just meant that he was enjoying himself somewhere, but what to do about the necklace, now? She needed to get it to a scientist for research, but it'd been him that she'd wanted to give it to. But he wasn't here, and the gold chain wasn't something that she should hang on to for too long. Even though she performed as a weapon's researcher on the side, this wasn't the type of thing for her to handle, and if someone found out that she'd been holding on to it... She didn't want to make herself and Amaranth seem suspicious...not where they already had a few secrets hidden under their table.
☙ Stepping away from Amaranth's quarters defeatedly, the woman found her eyes resting on the quarters of Sampson Gerald, the head scientist, instead as she looked back up. Maybe...
☙ Taking a last look at the golden chain, Shakaya stepped forwards towards the door. Hesitating just a moment longer, she gave a knock. "Mr. Gerald? Mr. Gerald, are you in? I have something I want to show you!" She chimed innocently. Her outward demeanor was completely different when she was interacting with other humans as opposed to the New Children that she commanded.

So that the Blind will see. (OOC... Sampson, not Adia)
- ✝ - Sampson was in one of his hidden laboratories beneath Arcis as Shakaya knocked on his door. When she did, a small alarm went off by one of his monitors. The monitor showed four cameras, one of them aimed at his door, watching Shakaya. “What could she possibly want?” he muttered under his breath. He looked at the necklace she was holding and then began to understand what was happening.
- ✝ - He hit a few buttons on the computer and the cameras all displayed an array of ultraviolet light; sure enough, this was the necklace that he had sent out earlier. It had small writing all over it, all in a color that would be completely invisible to the human eye. He then turned the cameras back to normal and held down an intercom button linked to outside his room. “Miss Shakaya,” he spoke, “I’m not in right now, I’m busy doing some research at the main laboratories. If you could meet me there in… about 20 minutes, I’ll be glad to talk with you. What is this about, anyways?”
- ✝ - He only paid half attention from then on; he had already known what it was about. He left the desk and walked towards another room in the hidden research lab to collect a few things. “John,” he said aloud, “I need to head up to Arcis to talk with a general. She has the necklace that we tried to send out to 9; any advice?”
- ✝ - A man walked in from another room; he was about 5’8” tall, and had short hair, as white as snow. His eyes were a bright green shade, and the whites of them were completely blacked out. Other than this, he appeared to be a normal human, looking to be about 20 years of age. “I already know,” he said in a calm voice, “I was just coming to tell you. Shakaya has also just returned from a call to the junkyards where she used 77 to kill the remnant who had originally taken it. I sense some kind of connection between the two of them.”
- ✝ - “Is it time to hide her, then?” Sampson asked as he walked towards a short, vacant hallway with all of his things. The mysterious man walked further towards him, and more of the light shined on him. It revealed that he wore a brown cloak, and seemingly nothing else; but his right arm and left leg were hooked up to large cables and cords. His eyes also had a metallic look to them, as if they were implants of some sort.
- ✝ - “No,” John said to Sampson, “I have also seen a vision of Shakaya, 77, some others… and of your X clone that I do not understand. I believe that it would be best to let things play out for now, and not interfere until we know what the plan is.” As John mentioned “his X clone,” Sampson looked into the lab from the hall, where an elevator door was opening, at a typical New Child vat. Within it was contained a very large looking New Child, loaded with unbelievable muscle tone and very long, snow white hair, formed into dreadlocks; its eyes were shut.
- ✝ - “Very well,” Sampson said to John, “I can only hope that you’ll see her before it’s too late for you.”
- ✝ - “Unfortunately,” John said back to him, “I do not think that day will come before death.” As he finished speaking, Sampson had boarded the elevator, and left.
And those who see will become Blind.

☙ A few moments passed before she got an answer. ...Was he not in either. Shakaya was just about to give up and leave when an intercom suddenly sparked to life, carrying the head scientist's voice. The woman blinked in surprise. ...Not in? Then how did he know that she'd knocked on his door? Did he have cameras set up near his room? Wow, she had to admit that that was pretty impressive.
☙ She looked up towards the intercom as she answered. "Alright, I see you there, then. I sent out a New Child to investigate the Remnant sightings in the Southern District's junkyard. We caught one, along with a man who'd been bitter, but all we have to show for it is this necklace." She explained briefly. There would be time for greater details later, when she met with him in person.
☙ The main labs, huh... Turning away now, she slowly made her way there with a last glance at Amaranth's room. Looked like he still hadn't come back yet, but even if he did, she'd already said that she was going to met with Sampson, now... She'd talked to him briefly a few times, but had never really met with him alone. She wondered what he was like. Pocketing the necklace again, she started to make her way to the main labs.

So that the Blind will see. - ✝ - Sampson arrived in the main laboratories quickly through his hidden elevator access. The elevator was a part of the lab, and, unless you had a specialized key, you wouldn’t even think that there could be an entire secret lab downstairs. He set all of his things on a desk, and flipped on a few moniters and equipment.
- ✝ - A few New Child vats lit up, revealing some half constructed new children in a scientific pre-awakening hibernation. The lab was well-lit for an underground sancutm, and it was very clean. He sat down at his desk and pulled a window of a gene sample, and began performing various calculations in a notebook.
- ✝ - As he awaited Shakaya’s arrival, he continued on in his research, going back and forth between a few different screens. He came to one of them, and it had a virtual image of a brain on it. The image showed up in five different colors, and as he looked at it, he muttered under his breath, “After years of research, I still can’t understand this…”
And those who see will become Blind.

♟ But You'd Look So Much Better inside out ♟
☙ By the time the azure haired woman reached the main labs, the head scientist was already there. She absently glanced around as she stepped inside. Several monitors and vats were lit up, with papers and research tools scattered across the tables. She absently wondered what he was working on so intently in here, but it probably wasn't really her place to ask. Instead, she slowly padded up towards the man.
☙ "Mr. Gerald?" She started, reaching into her pocket and pulling out the gold chain that'd been found at the junkyard. "Here's the necklace that I wanted to show you. #PI077A found it when I sent her off to investigate the junkyard within the Southern District. There's been frequent Remnant sightings there recently, and I thought it'd be a good idea to investigate them further, so we interrogated a Remnant we caught before disposing of it, along with a man who'd been bitter. It's probably nothing, but..." She bit her lip slightly before continuing.
☙ "The Remnant had apparently said something about coming down to look for something, and attacking the victim when he took it. Now according to that man, it was this necklace it was after, but I don't see anything particularly special about it. It may have just been used as a scapegoat for the both the Remnant and the victim once we started asking questions, but all the same, I thought it might be good if a scientist looked it over for anything unusual." She explained in greater detail, holding the chain out towards him as she finished speaking.

So that the Blind will see. - ✝ - Samson stood up when Shakaya addressed him, and turned around to talk with her face to face rather than rudely remained seated. As she began to explain to him what she wanted, he paid attention, and noted everything she said mentally even though he already knew what was going on. He nodded when she had finished talking and took the necklace, setting it down on his desk before responding, “Yes, well, I’ll have a look at for you then,” he said, and then moved away from the desk a bit, but not away from talking.
- ✝ - “PI077A,” Sampson thought over it for a few seconds, trying to stir up a bit more conversation, “I was good friends with her former owner; Adia, that’s what he had named her. She was well loved by him, and I think it’s an absolute shame that she’s stuck working for the military now. I only wish I had the time to care for her if I could pay for her, but I just don’t. I’d be doing a good friend a huge disrespect if I didn’t ask how she was holding up.”
- ✝ - After he had said that, he picked up the necklace again, and began looking at it, staring it up and down as he awaited a response. “I know John has always been as sharp as an obsidian blade; and Ashley had an intellect as brilliant as a diamond in her former life. I wonder if any of it has rubbed off on either of these two,” he thought silently, “If either of them are going to be able to figure us out… it’d do us some good to know in advance.”
And those who see will become Blind.

♟ But You'd Look So Much Better inside out ♟
☙ As Shakaya approached, the man stood up and faced her, listening. He didn't say a whole lot, and neither did he seem particularly surprised or curious, which briefly stuck the woman as a bit odd. While it might be nothing but a scapegoat both the victim and the Remnant had tried to feed them, the way the investigation had lead to a simply gold chain had struck her as slightly unusual, though the man didn't seem to share her bewilderment somehow. But regardless, he agreed to have a look at it as he took the necklace and placed it on his desk. She supposed that that was all that mattered.
☙ Just as she was about to turn and leave, though, considering her business done, the man spoke up again, muttering the wolf New Child's number. Shakaya blinked in surprise. Adia, huh...? So he was familiar with her. A scientist concerned about a New Child, how very unexpected. She gave just a slight, odd grin.
☙ "I was actually very impressed with her performance during the assignment." The General admitted, crossing her arms as she moved to lean against a wall. "She has a sharp mind, quick reactions, plenty of skill, and a ruthless determination. Seems to me she's doing quite well as part of the infantry. At the very least, anyway, she's useful. Certainly a notch or two about most of the other New Children I work with..."

So that the Blind will see. - ✝ - “Well,” Sampson said to Shakaya as she told him that Adia was doing well in her new role as an infantry member, “I suppose that’s good to hear.” As he spoke, he thought to himself, “She must not be aware of Adia’s rage yet. Besides the point; let’s see how smart you really are.”
- ✝ - Sampson turned towards the computer screen and waved Shakaya over to him, “Come here, I’ve got a question to ask you; I want to see if you can figure any of this out,” he said and then continued without giving Shakaya any time to speak, “Most New Children are composed of two different strains of DNA; the first one human, the second animal. This program is a brain composition display that shows what part of DNA dominates a particular area of the brain: since there’s no perfect splice between the two genes, cells of a certain type tend to migrate towards different parts of the body. The brain, normally, is about 85% human, and only 15% animal; but this one is a confusing case. Here, what you’re seeing is the brain of a fairly old New Child that not only has 5 distinct DNA patterns in their brain, but the brain seems to be perfectly divided up, percentage wise, and 2 of the 5 DNA patterns are randomly integrated throughout the entire brain. I know that you’re no scientist, but sometimes, it’s best to seek the opinions of some-one less educated in a certain field, in case the more educated is simply overlooking the obvious. So, just throw a guess out there, why do you think it’s like this?”

♟ But You'd Look So Much Better inside out ♟
☙ "Well, I suppose that's good to hear." The man answered distractedly, seeming somewhat lost in his thoughts. A few moments later, he got up and waved Shakaya over, towards a large computer screen. Blinking in surprise, she followed, approaching the large screen that what looked like images of brain scans. ...What did he want from her?
☙ She listened to his question and explanation, though she already knew the basics of New Children design from Amaranth. She was quiet for a moment as she stared at the screen. "Well...I do dabble in weapon science, but I'm no Architect or biologist..." She gave her cheek a thoughtful scratch, not understanding why he was asking her this, really. She supposed it was true that it was good to get an outside opinion sometimes, but it somehow still struck her as odd. "Was this one made any differently? What's it's behavior like?" She wondered aloud, asking more questions more so than giving an answer.

So that the Blind will see. - ✝ - Sampson thought for a moment, and then responded to the general’s questions, “Well, this particular subject was indeed made differently. A man… well… a mad scientist, if you will, named Victor was responsible for this one. He was kicked off of the team when we found out he was impersonating a buyer, and having this particular New Child fabricated for himself. We never thought to look into the genetic patterns until after it already auctioned off. As far as behavior goes; it seems to be acting normal most of the time, except that every now and then, it will exhibit an anomaly in its behavioral patterns which is why I’m looking into this strange genetic make-up.”
- ✝ - After finishing, Sampson waited calmly and patiently for a response, being as polite as always and allowing Shakaya to say something back. As he did, his thoughts wandered a bit, “As a general, she might be able to give some sort of… mandate that the New Child be repossessed to the lab for studies. I’m sure John would like that, and while we’re doing the genetic studies, we can also look into how memory development has come along, and also take a sample to splice with its X counterpart to keep it from losing current memories.”
And those who see will become Blind.

♟ But You'd Look So Much Better inside out ♟
☙ Shakaya listened intently to the man's answers. So a co-worker had been impersonating a customer and designing his own New Child? She didn't know much about what went on in the labs and lives of the Architects, really. At least, not more than what Amaranth talked about. In truth, she wasn't really all that interested, even if she sometimes pretended to be for his sake. All she knew was the New Child project had taken away her father, and she'd distanced herself from it since, focusing only on her hate for the creations and looking at them like tools. For the most part, she could care less about how they were made, but this particular story was somewhat interesting. ...Why would this man, Victor, have done something like that? And what would've been the point of giving it a more animalistic genetic code?
☙ She was quiet for a moment, thoughtful. "Well, as long as it's human side is still the most dominate aspect of its behavior I doubt that it's anything to worry about...but..." She looked back up again, turning from the scan to the scientist. "Why are you really asking me this? Is there a certain answer that you're looking for?" It seemed the story behind why this New Child was different was already quite clear, yet the man seemed very interested in it. His explanations had seemed very carefully worded and detailed, too. Was he fishing for a certain response?

So that the Blind will see. - ✝ - Sampson listened to Shakaya’s questions and nodded, “If Victor wanted to give this new child more animal aspects, that would be understandable; but two of these genetic codes are completely ambiguous, they aren’t anything as far as we can figure.” After he said that, he thought for a few moments, and then spoke up again, “I was hoping that I could bring in this subject for some more in depth and up close studies, rather than studying some models from way back during its creation. I want to see if the genetic code has changed at all, or if there are ways to activate these ambiguous genetic fragments to see what they do.”
- ✝ - Sampson took the gold chain that Shakaya had given him to study, and began to walk over to another part of the lab to take a look at it; it was an attempt to hint at the fact that he was doing her a favor, as he was now asking for one in return without saying it. “As a general, I had hoped you would have some kind of power to, in essence, repossess the new child for me. Victor was a troubled man, whatever he did with this new child… it could be dangerous.”
And those who see will become Blind.
