The creators of Arcis, humans in places of power constructed the city in order to escape the infection and contamination spreading throughout the Surface world above ground. The citizens of Arcis are the only examples of humankind remaining, with everyone left on the Surface having been long since mutated into Remnants. As divided and opinionated as ever, the remaining humans don't always see eye to eye, though, with most people having different views regarding everything from the New Children, the Surface, and the government.

The New Children are manufactured lifeforms created from a mixture of DNA and material collected from deceased humans and animals, and technological programming. While classified as objects as opposed to living things in the eyes of the law, they were conceptualized and created as a way to get around impurities in purely human genetics and to met demands such as pleasure, companionship, protection and hard labor that the small remaining human population was struggling to maintain.
-Basic Facts-
[/size] -ID Numbers- New Children do not have names, instead they each have a unique, six-digit number. The format of this number is standardized, and given to them upon creation.
Some example ID numbers include: C-082C - this New Child would've been created primarily for companionship, was the 82nd total New Child created, and was of average quality, and SI064E - this New Child was created with service and labor in mind, but also serves a role in the protective infantry, it was the 64th New Child created, but was of low quality.
-Classes- Classes represent a New Child's primary purpose or intention of creation. There are four separate classes, C, P, I, and S.
[/b] C class New Children were created primarily for companionship. Many of these creations are treated as either surrogate human children or pets, and usually remain domestic. Most of these specimens were created and young apparent ages. Typically, these New Children live the best lives out of their kind. ☢ P: P class New Children were created primarily for pleasure. The different between P class and C class specimens are that P class specimens generally serve functions that differ from roles human children or pets would provide, often having tie-ins to the owner's job roles or hobbies...some of them also fall victim to their owner's more unpleasant pleasures. Overall, while some C class New Children are treated as equals by their owners, that isn't the case with those created as P class. ☢ S: S class New Children were created primarily for city service or hard labor. They generally were made to serve unpaid jobs and services needed by the city or their owners that are either undesired by or deemed unnecessarily risky for regular humans. Some claim that the S actually stands for slavery instead of service. They are easily the most common class. ☢ I: I class New Children were created primarily to protect Arcis as part of a Parliament owned infantry. When the Remnants from the surface try to find their way in to Arcis, as is a relatively common occurrence, the New Children infantry is generally sent out to deal with it as opposed to human soldiers. With the population so low, human lives can't be risked, so the New Children infantry was created as a disposable method of protection from these threats. Unlike the other classes, it is illegal for New Children of this class to be privately-owned, and they are generally kept under the watch and control of human soldiers and commanded by appointed human generals.[/ul] New Children may have as many as two classes, and these classes will be represented in their ID number (see above).
